Womens Professional Soccer is Back!

Women's Professional Soccer: After starting its inaugural 2009 season with seven teams, the WPS plans to add Atlanta and Philadelphia in 2010. The league is interested in growing to ten teams in 2010 and could add a tenth team in Cary (NC). The Cary-based Carolina Courage played in all three seasons (2001-03) of the previous women's pro soccer league called the Women's United Soccer Association.

Mantua native tries out for Phila. soccer team

Mandy Moraca spent the past three days vying for a spot on the Women's Professional Soccer League newest team, the Philadelphia Independence. The Mantua native was one of 32 players nationwide invited to attend a three-day training camp at Chestnut Hill College.

The first time Keri Sanchez touched a soccer ball was before she even started kindergarten as a member of a boys’ league.From then on it was an illustrious soccer career for Sanchez, who was a member of four straight North Carolina Tar Heel teams that reached the final four, a three-year starter for the Boston Breakers and San Jose CyberRays in the WUSA, and owner of 11 international appearances as a part of the U.S. National Team. So, it was no surprise that the 36-year-old Sancez wanted to be a part of Women’s Professional Soccer.

Remembering ’99: Nikki Krzysik

During the 1999 Women’s World Cup, I was your typical soccer obsessed 13-year-old living in Clifton, New Jersey. I was so thrilled that the 1999 Women’s World Cup was going to be hosted in the United States and on top of that the opening game was going to be in my backyard. The opening game was played in Giants Stadium, which was about ten minutes from my house, and if all that wasn’t enough to get a 13-year-old excited, the boy band *NSYNC was the opening act.

Louisville’s Vancil Leads US Under-20 National Team to Germany for Two International Matches

University of Louisville freshman goalkeeper Taylor Vancil is currently in Germany with the US Under-20 National Team for matches against the England and German Under-19s. Team USA is scheduled to be in Germany from June 19-27 for the two international matches.
