Michelle Kwan quote?
Posted: 27 Jul 2004 09:04 PM
Does anyone remember who said this (it was a newspaper article) after the 2004 US Nationals:

"Sports fans applaud Woods and Lance Armstrong, but Kwan may be the greatest individual champion of this generation."

With all the hype over who's best after Lance's win on Sunday I wanted to throw this quote out, but without an author it has little credibility.

Be careful who you call an idiot. Look at this, if you can read: These are real competitions, not shows! And Michelle has been on the top of her game for 10 years, *NEVER* finishing lower than 3rd in individual events!

I've been watching Michelle Kwan skate since she had little spindle legs. I've seen her at many performances & follow her on TV when unable to be there in person. Michelle is a formidable challenger. She has carried herself with dignity, grace & pose. we need more Champions like her. The world should look up to her with admiration & pride. What a fantastic role model for our youth. I wish her more glory & much love. Beverly Jackino

I feel the need to reply to youu quote. It is true Michelle has been at the top for ten years, but, she won allot of her medals because she is the judges favorite. She is a beautiful, graceful skater, but, she lowers the bar on MY Sport. Doing easier jumps instead of getting better and tougher. That is why two times in a row she didn't win gold in the oylimpics.I haVE seen her take medals many times because she is Americas sweetheart and a judges favorite, not cuz she was the best skater there. And I think her ego is out of control.I know this statement will upset all the Michelle lovers out there , but,It's my opinion and I am sticking to it. Thanks.......and i belive it is time for her to go pro and let our more talented youth step up and show the world what America has to offer.....

Why let her go pro? Let the youngsters step it up and beat her! That's what she did when she was 15! She's a legion. Like it or not she is skating and the fans LOVE her. You, my friend, are in the minority here.

I am with you on this. Michelle Kwan is a has been and the arrogance of her. I am an Asian American and let me tell you something, our culture does not endorse such ego driven - arrogant behavior as Kwan is displaying. I don't think she is a great skater and she needs to just move on. If she is such great athalete why not let the others WHO really deserve to compete in the Olympics compete. If she was injured and could not try out for the Olympic slot than thats just too bad!!! Who the h*ll does she think she is...do you really think there should be an exception for her??? I say NOOOOO!!!!!

I joined just so I coud reply to this. That should tell you how important this is to me. Who do you think you are talking about Kwan like that? Look at the history of Michelle. The reason she was the judges favorite was because she DESERVED IT! NO less that third in 10 years. Have you ever seen any other person in a sport for that many years and stay on top. Have you seen any other person pick herself up after losing 1st and still smile, take a lower medal and go home. She is the best. What ego? She has shown no ego and you are all crazy. I have watched her skate and fall from the time she was 12 and 13. Watch her win and lose she has always shown the best sportsmanship ever. Other people should LEARN from her. Have you have heard of her getting stopped for DIU, heard of her failing drug test or fighting in a bar. None of the above because she is a better person that that. You people talking about ego. Do you remember what an ego is?
Tara should have never beat her all those years ago. She did do a harder jump than Kwan did but the artistic of Kwan always and I mean ALWAYS goes far above everyone. Tara should never have walked off with the gold medal because of one d*mn jump. Sure Tara could go out there and so more and harder jumps. But could she show the artisty that Swan had? Could she flow across the ice like a feature like Swan could? Did is show emotion or make you feel the music like Swan could? h*ll no! Crazy and stupid that was so wrong in so many ways. That was the largest wrong judging I have ever seen in my life. She was decaded to the sport. Nobody is decaded to the sport the way she was. Where is Cohen? She is trying for model and movie deals. Now American skaters are part time doing this and that, they are just not decaded like Kwan was. There will never be another Kwan.
